I recently bought a used mountain bike off of Craigs, a 2006 Jamis Durango 1.0 (Thanks to all those nice folks at mtbnj.com for helping me decide/purchase this item). Since I am strapped for cash, I cannot afford a brand new mountain bike. So a used bike is the only option. So for those folks out there looking for a mountain bike, or any sorts of bike on a budget, try hitting Craigs, eBay, or any mountain bike forums first, before hitting the store. You might just find a great deal online. Just make sure that the size fits you and be careful of scammers. If the price is too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Also, a tip I learned from my friend Jood is to "Sell your old stuff" to offset for the cost and to appease the wifey. It will also help to clear the clutter out of your garage or attic.
So why did I decide on a hardtail? It's cheaper and based on my riding style and the type of riding that I want to do...Cross Country and Singletrack. Depending on the budget and if there is a good price on parts, I am planning to upgrade parts on this bike. I already have some parts that I want to swap to this bike, and make this my main off-road bike...stay tuned!
